Government entities use traffic data and AI tools to receive real-time accurate information on the status of accidents and to predict traffic. This helps the respective entities to plan routes to reduce congestion, and schedule maintenance of roads and bridges.
Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of Abu Dhabi has launched two initiatives with Google. One is called ‘Project Green Light’. It is an analytical system, which utilises AI techniques. It collects and analyses traffic data at intersections and provides recommendations to improve the efficiency of traffic lights in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. This project is aimed at reducing traffic congestion and CO2 emissions.
For the other initiative, Google’s AI Platform will be leveraged to analyse big data generated from Google Maps to forecast traffic, predict traffic congestion areas and develop proactive plans to minimise them. ITC will also receive accurate real-time data on the status of accidents and areas of traffic congestion from Google Maps.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) launched a comprehensive Enterprise Platform for designing and developing AI and data science solutions. The platform can process RTA-owned data and restructure it for training machine-learning models. It offers numerous pre-built algorithms for machine learning, thus, eliminating the need for source code writing. It also provides a mechanism for comparing algorithm performance in terms of speed and accuracy, allowing the selection of the most suitable one to be used. The platform helps RTA in the areas of predictive maintenance for roads and bridges, public transportation route planning, crowd management and more.
