The UAE:

Incubator of Innovations

Innovation has deservingly become a UAE commodity. The UAE has early on realized that the

success of comprehensive development is connected to establishing and reinforcing the culture of

innovation, which has become later on a key feature of the performance of various local and federal

agencies in the UAE, as well as their quality and excellent services.

The culture of innovation was first established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Wise

leaders, notably, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President and His High-

ness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler

of Dubai, followed in his footsteps.

The UAE has chosen to create the future as its true capital and investment rather than waiting for

the right circumstances to create it. Accordingly, the Museum of the Future was created pursuant to

instructions from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

There is no doubt that the Museum of the Future will boost the state’s innovation environment to

keep pace with requirements of new generation to build smart future cities.

This 23rd mGov issue reports on law no. 19 of 2015, which was issued to set up the Museum of

the Future. The objectives of the establishment in accordance with the law include enhancing the

country’s status to adopt ideas and initiatives, innovative inventions, contribute to building a knowl-

edge-based economy, forward thinking and creating a platform that resembles an incubator for

ideas and innovation that supports the development of a stimulating environment for innovation and

constitutes a source of inspiration for innovators and inventors and pioneers from around the world.

His issue also includes a report on the resolution approved by Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman

of Dubai Executive Council His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,

regarding the organizational structure of Dubai Smart Government (DSG).

The Resolution enables DSG to carry out its responsibilities in building a knowledge-based commu-

nity by supporting Dubai Government’s smart transformation and helping government departments

provide innovative smart services.

Through this issue, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) calls upon all government

entities wishing to participate in the 4th GCC eGovernment Award, hosted by the Kingdom of Bah-

rain, to submit their entries.

The award aims to achieve three pivotal goals namely reinforcing the culture of excellence at GCC

government bodies; finding a competitive and positive atmosphere that encourages ongoing devel-

opment and research; and finding a means and tool to promote innovative practices.

The report also lists all the awards won by the UAE during the last three awards. The UAE has

bagged most of the GCC eGovernment awards since their launch, which proves its excellent and

outstanding position and performance.

This issue further sheds light on the TRA innovation camp that aims to promote the culture of in-

novation among Emirati youngsters in ICT.

The camp seeks to help participantsdevelop life skills, manage tough situations, control their emo-

tions, improve self-confidence especially in critical situations, build emotional flexibility and intel-

ligence, and develop problem solving and technical skills.

In an interview with mGov, Mr. Yuta Kawamura, Marketing Manager for Fujifilm Middle East and

Africa said that the camera market is continuously declining, and was impacted by the growth of

mobile and smart devices eight years ago. The impact was insignificant at first as such devices had

limited photographing abilities. However, with the tremendous evolution of technology over the past

five years, smartphones have dominated nearly 50% of global market share.

In this issue, we are also publishing a diverse array of reports and local and global news in ICT,

smartphone and tablet applications and latest mGov mobile apps.
