The Dubai Municipality has launched the “Aleef” mobile
application. The app enables pet owners in Dubai to
access the Municipality’s care services, provided by
veterinary clinics in Dubai.
The name of the app was chosen based on a contest with
participants from the public and specialists to choose a
name that truly reflects care for pets. It is noteworthy that
Aleef is an Arabic word that means pets.
Aleef is a smart platform for current and prospective pet
owners to better manage the roster of, adoption of and care
of animals in Dubai, in accordance with the Municipality’s
regulations. It manages pet information (across public and
private clinics) through smartphones; it centralizes pet
points of interest through integrated map functionality; it
enables a single and comprehensive source for adoption;
it facilitates the posting of animals that are lost, found and/
or stray; it provides relevant and credible pet ownership
information, and digitizes pet information and history
The app launch by the Municipality comes as support to
the transformation efforts to a smart government, and in
framework of the Dubai Municipality’s care for the health
and safety of the society. This step also comes as part
of its awareness of the increasing number of owners of
pets, such as dogs, cats, etc., and the need to ensure the
health and safety of these animals by providing a safe and
secure environment to handle them within a social service
framework, and limit fraud in the export, import and sale
of pets.
The Dubai Municipality has it a priority to offer excellent
services that exceed the expectations of the public. It
always seeks to direct all efforts to achieve high level of
customer satisfaction. The Aleef app is no exception. It is
also compatible with all smartphone platforms.
The app also comes as a response to the increasing need
to move apps from electronic services that are available
online to smart services available on mobile devices. The
UAE is the world’s top country in terms of smartphone
user numbers to its population number. Moreover, features
available on mobile apps are usually not available on
computers.
