Apple compiled its annual list of what it
considers to be the year’s most standout
apps, with categories ranging from “best
apps” to “best games.” Some notable in-
clusions were Yahoo News Digest, Face-
book’s Paper and the SwiftKey Keyboard
app. With iOS 8, which debuted in Sep-
tember, Apple allowed iPhone users to
pick alternative keyboard options from
third-party developers; SwiftKey was
quickly heralded as one of the best.
Uber app, widely known for connect-
ing drivers with passengers, was also
on Apple’s list in spite of the controversy
that erupted about it after being used by
a manager at the developing company to
spy on a journalist in New York.
Old apps in Google’s list of ‘Best
Apps for 2014’
Google has published its list of apps that it
considered the best Android apps for 2014
through a special section on Google Play
that can be accessed via the internet or
the mobile app store under the title Best
Apps of 2014.
The list included some new apps released
in 2014 in addition to other older ones that
are still popular among users of Google’s
Android operating system.
Google didn’t unveil criteria for the selec-
tions, as it apparently didn’t select the most
downloaded or the most rated ones, how-
ever mainly it chose apps with attractive
and professional design, as well as those
built according to its design and develop-
ment standards, featuring high quality in
terms of interface and user experience.
Google 65-app winning list included Tele-
gram, Skype Qik and Secret apps in the
instant messaging category. Meanwhile,
the winning apps in the category of news
included Yahoo News Digest, NYTimes
and CNN apps.
