Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime
Minister and Ruler of Dubai announced UAE
Innovation Week, to be held from 2228-
November 2015.
His Highness said that innovation today is
not a luxury or an option, but a requirement
and a lifestyle. Governments and businesses
that lack innovation and creation lose their
competitive edge and surely lack progress.
“We have multiplied our investments in
innovation, especially in terms of equipping
and training our national cadres because
keeping pace with the rapid changes taking
place in the world requires innovative cadres
and an environment that supports innovation,”
Sheikh Mohammed said.
“Our private and public sectors, including
education, health, energy, environment, space,
economy and services sectors will showcase
their innovations during the 2015 UAE
Innovation Week,” Sheikh Mohammed added.
In presence of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan
Bin Mohammad BinRashid Al Maktoum,
Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of
Dubai Executive Council, Sheikh Mohammed
called upon the public and private sectors and
academic entities to participate in the UAE
Innovation Week.
He gave the public the opportunity to make
suggestions, through social media channels,
about events to be held during the week, in an
attempt to make the week the primary destination
for innovation and innovators in the region.
Public and private sectors innovation-based
initiatives are expected to be announced
during the UAE Innovation Week, as well as
organizing an array of activities by government,
research, and academic entities, including
schools. The week will further include a number
of workshops, discussions, and innovative
lands with the aim to generate new ideas and
re-evaluate previous innovations made during
the Innovation Year 2015.
His Highness tweeted urging the public to
suggest ideas for the week events and activities
such as celebrating the most innovative
education methods, the most innovative
government entity, the most innovative
teachers, themost innovative national company
and the most innovation-supporting university.
The aim is to make the UAE Innovative Week
the country’s most important event in 2015 and
revolutionize the culture of innovation across
all organizations and sectors.
A committee comprising representatives
of the Federal and local Governments and
private sector will be formed to organize
the UAE Innovation Week. The committee
will be responsible for receiving ideas and
coordinating all activities related to the Week
among federal and local entities and major
national businesses.
The UAE Innovation Week was launched in the
presence of the Minister of Cabinet Affairs and
Chairman of the National Innovation Committee
Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Director
General of the Department of Protocol and
Hospitality in Dubai Khalifa Saeed Suleiman,
Director General of the Prime Minister Office
Ohood Al Roumi, Secretary General of the
UAE Cabinet Najla Al Awar and Executive
Director of Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for
Government Innovation Huda Al Hashemi.
The UAE Innovation Week will be held from 22-
28 November 2015, and will serve as a platform
for federal and local government entities,
leading private sector companies, universities,
and academic institutions to hold their own
events and showcase their innovations and
applications, in an attempt to promote and
reinforce the culture of innovation.
The UAE Innovation Week will be based
on a regulatory mechanism that gives all
partners the opportunity to organize their
activities in coordination with the supervisory
committee. Activities during the Week will
include competitions, exhibitions, innovative
labs, workshops, interactive programs,
conferences discussion, and launch of national
initiatives for innovation throughout the UAE,
as well as exhibiting the major initiatives and
accomplishments of the Year of Innovation.
